West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose was discharged from a private hospital in Kolkata on Thursday, May 15, 2025, after a 23-day stay. He was initially admitted on April 22, 2025, after experiencing shoulder pain and uneasiness. Doctors later identified that he had mild coronary artery disease.
Governor Bose's health issues arose shortly after his return from a visit to the Murshidabad district, which has a significant minority population, where he was reviewing communal tensions and violence related to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. Following his visit, he submitted a report to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, highlighting the West Bengal government's failure to curb the communal violence and pointing out shortcomings in police infrastructure, manpower, and equipment. The report suggested deploying Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and establishing CAPF camps in sensitive areas like Murshidabad and Malda. It also suggested considering the use of Article 356 (President's rule) if necessary to maintain law and order.
Initially, on April 21, Governor Bose was admitted to the Eastern Command Hospital after complaining of chest pain. He was then moved to a private medical facility for further tests. Doctors at the private hospital performed an interventional cardiac procedure. Throughout the process, the hospital reported that Governor Bose was cooperative and responded well to the treatment.
Upon discharge, the hospital stated that the Governor's oxygen saturation was at 100 percent, and his blood pressure and blood glucose levels were normal. The medical team has advised Governor Bose to slow down his work pace and adhere to a monitored recovery plan, including rest, regular medication, and a controlled diet. He is expected to undergo further assessments as part of his recovery.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Governor Bose in the hospital and instructed the Bengal principal health secretary to ensure all necessary arrangements for his treatment. She also closely monitored his condition.
The Governor's office released a statement expressing gratitude to those who conveyed their good wishes and concern during his hospitalization. The statement also conveyed that the Governor was in good health and high spirits upon his return to Raj Bhavan.
