Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the advanced Multi Agency Centre (MAC) at North Block in New Delhi, marking a significant step towards enhancing national security and combating terrorism. The upgraded intelligence coordination hub aims to provide a seamless and integrated platform for synergizing the efforts of all agencies in addressing complex and interconnected national security challenges.
The new MAC is designed to strengthen the country's efforts to tackle serious threats such as terrorism, extremism, organized crime, and cyber-attacks. It incorporates futuristic capabilities, including embedded AI/ML techniques, to harness the potential of the vast database within MAC and GIS services. This will enhance trend analysis, hotspot mapping, and predictive operations, offering more accurate and actionable outcomes.
The Multi Agency Centre (MAC) functions under the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and serves as the nodal platform for seamless coordination and information exchange between various security and intelligence agencies across the country. The new facility is expected to enhance real-time intelligence sharing, quicken response mechanisms, and improve inter-agency synergy in addressing internal and external threats.
Executed at a cost of over ₹500 crore, the new MAC network has undergone both qualitative and quantitative transformation. It has connected all the intelligence, security, law enforcement, and investigative agencies, spanning the length and breadth of the country, including island territories, insurgency-affected areas, and mountainous high-altitude terrain. This ensures last-mile connectivity down to the level of district superintendents of police in the remotest areas with a fast and standalone secure network.
During the inauguration, Shah lauded the intelligence agencies for their accurate information during "Operation Sindoor," highlighting the good coordination between India's spy agencies and armed forces. He described "Operation Sindoor" as a unique symbol of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's firm political will, the precise intelligence provided by agencies, and the unmatched strike capability of India's three armed forces. The operation, a counterstrike in response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, drew global attention and culminated in an 'understanding' on May 10.
Shah also praised the recent anti-Naxal operation in the Karregattalu Hills along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, calling it a shining example of excellent coordination among India's security forces. He emphasized that the new MAC will play a key role in breaking down the terror ecosystem and bridging data silos across central agencies.
The inauguration of the advanced MAC and the success of operations like "Sindoor" and "Black Forest" reflect a broader strategic shift in India's internal security approach. The government aims to establish proactive and preventive security frameworks through multi-agency coordination, real-time intelligence sharing, and modernized operations. This signifies India's move towards a proactive, intelligence-led framework to combat threats from terrorism, insurgency, and cross-border militancy.
