A recent Instagram post by Shenaz Treasury, the actress known for her role in 'Ishq Vishk' and her stint as an MTV host, has ignited a debate about the stark contrast in living costs between Mumbai and Bali. In the video, Treasury reveals that she pays more rent for her one-bedroom apartment in Mumbai than her friend does for a luxurious villa in Bali, complete with a private pool and lush garden.

The video quickly went viral, resonating with many who are struggling with the exorbitant rental rates in Mumbai. Treasury's post highlights the fact that in Mumbai, often called the "City of Dreams," even a small 1BHK apartment can cost more than a spacious villa in Bali, which is located just 10 minutes from a beach. She showcased her cozy Mumbai apartment before transitioning to the serene, spacious villa in Bali. This comparison has led many to question the real estate prices in Mumbai.

Treasury also elaborated on the perks of living in Bali, stating that "You can live in a villa with a pool for the same price (or less) than a 1BHK in Mumbai, London, or LA. Meals, massages, and transport are affordable — but the quality of life feels high." She further added that Bali has become a wellness hub, perfect for people burnt out by city life.

The post has sparked mixed reactions online. Some social media users expressed disbelief and shock at the comparison, with many commenting that they were now considering a move to Bali. One user wrote, "Omg I need to move to Bali – paying so much rent and just waking up to horns and pollution here." Another one commented, “You are encouraging me to move to Bali.” Others pointed out that Mumbai's high rental costs are a well-known issue, and the comparison with Bali only underscores the problem. "Definitely the cost of living in Bombay is equal to that of London. Bali is definitely awesome, clean and SAFE for global nomads,” a user commented.

However, some netizens cautioned against comparing the two locations, while some stated that the same will soon happen to Bali as well. Some users argued that comparing Mumbai, a major financial hub, to Bali, a tourist destination, was unfair. One user said "Go to Bali. Mumbai and India would be happy without you. It's now and then you keep bashing India". There were also concerns that the increasing popularity of Bali could lead to a rise in real estate prices there as well. “With the influx of people, Bali will also become expensive due to demand and supply when demand becomes high. It's just a matter of time. Till then go and enjoy till it lasts.”

The online debate reflects a broader discussion about the affordability of housing in major Indian cities like Mumbai. Sky-high rents, especially in central and suburban hotspots, make even small apartments unaffordable for many. The video has prompted reactions from several social media users, who were stunned with the striking rent comparison.

Treasury's video has not only highlighted the disparity in living costs but has also drawn attention to the increasing trend of remote work and digital nomadism, with many individuals seeking out locations like Bali that offer a better quality of life at a lower cost. Indonesia is also offering longer-stay digital nomad visas, which makes it easier for foreigners to settle for months or even years in cities like Bali.
