A tragic incident in Dehradun has claimed the life of a local DJ, Sagar Kumar (30), after an accidental firing during a gathering of friends. The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Patel Nagar area, where Sagar and four friends were at the residence of Aman, who runs a small online business.
According to Patel Nagar SHO Chandraban Singh Adhikari, the friends were having drinks on the terrace when Aman took out an unlicensed pistol. He removed the magazine and placed the weapon on a table. Subsequently, Aman began playing with the pistol, pointed it at Sagar, and playfully pulled the trigger, unaware that the weapon was already cocked and a round remained in the chamber. The shot struck Sagar in the chest, proving fatal.
Following the shooting, Aman fled the scene. Police have registered a case against him under BNS section 105, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Authorities are currently making efforts to locate and apprehend him. Sagar's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
This unfortunate event marks the second such incident in Dehradun within a month. On April 16, a 20-year-old student from Jharkhand, Shashi Shekhar, was shot by his friend, Shashi Ranjan, while the latter was examining Shekhar's gun. Ranjan initially claimed that Shekhar was injured in a suicide attempt, but police investigations revealed the truth, leading to Ranjan's arrest. Shekhar succumbed to his injuries on April 20.
The incident highlights the dangers of handling firearms irresponsibly, even when perceived as unloaded. It also brings to light the issue of unlicensed weapons and their potential for misuse. The police investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the suspect is apprehended and the circumstances surrounding the incident are thoroughly examined. The community is left mourning the loss of a young DJ and grappling with the consequences of this tragic accident.
