The divorce proceedings between Tamil actor Ravi Mohan, also known as Jayam Ravi, and his wife Aarti Ravi have taken a dramatic turn, with Aarti demanding a substantial alimony of ₹40 lakh per month. The couple, who have been married for 15 years, appeared before the Chennai Family Court this week, where both parties presented their petitions.
Ravi Mohan initiated the divorce proceedings last year, citing irreconcilable differences. He has maintained a firm stance that reconciliation is not possible. In response, Aarti has filed a counter-petition, seeking significant financial support to maintain her lifestyle and ensure the well-being of their two sons, aged 10 and 14, after the separation.
The demand for ₹40 lakh per month has sparked considerable debate. Some critics argue that the amount is excessive, exceeding the monthly income of many top professionals and potentially surpassing Ravi Mohan's earnings per film. However, Aarti's supporters contend that such a sum is justified, especially if there was infidelity or emotional distress during the marriage. Aarti has alluded to a "third person" in their marriage, singer Kenishaa Francis. They argue that a substantial alimony serves as compensation and safeguards the children's future.
Ravi Mohan has also made allegations, claiming abuse and isolation during the marriage, further complicating the situation. The court had previously directed the couple to attend reconciliation sessions, but these efforts proved futile as neither Ravi nor Aarti reportedly attended. Consequently, the mediation process was declared a failure.
During the recent court hearing, Judge Thenmozhi heard Ravi Mohan's petition, where he reiterated his desire for a divorce and stated that there was no possibility of reconciliation. Aarti, in her counter-petition, asserted her need for financial support post-separation, leading to her alimony demand.
With no mutual agreement in sight, the court has instructed both parties to submit written responses outlining their positions. The next hearing is scheduled for June 12, 2025, when the court will review Ravi Mohan's reply to Aarti's counter-petition. The outcome will hinge on the court's assessment of the couple's financial circumstances, the children's needs, and the validity of the allegations made by both sides. The legal battle appears set to be prolonged and potentially contentious. In the meantime, Ravi Mohan has posted a mocking message on social media with the caption "News Incoming".
