The horror-comedy Kapkapiii, starring Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor, has had a slow start at the box office on its opening day, May 23, 2025. The film, directed by Sangeeth Sivan, managed to collect an estimated ₹26 lakh in India, according to Koimoi. Other sources like Pinkvilla reported a slightly lower opening of ₹15 lakh but later revised it to ₹25 lakh. Times Now reports ₹0.26 crore for the Hindi collection and approximately ₹0.29 crore nett in India. These figures indicate a rather lackluster beginning for the film, especially considering it was released alongside other Bollywood ventures like Kesari Veer and Bhool Chuk Maaf.

Several factors contributed to the film's tepid reception. Firstly, Kapkapiii faced competition from Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's Bhool Chuk Maaf, which emerged as the preferred choice for audiences this weekend. Additionally, holdover releases like Raid 2, Kesari 2, Mission Impossible 8, and Final Destination: Bloodlines further constrained the film's potential audience.

Kapkapiii is an official Hindi remake of the Malayalam movie Romancham. The story revolves around a group of six unemployed friends sharing a rented house, who accidentally invite a ghost into their lives while experimenting with an Ouija board. The cast includes Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Siddhi Idnani, Sonia Rathee, Jay Thakkar, and Abhishek Kumar.

Despite the presence of known faces like Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade, the film struggled to generate significant buzz prior to its release. While Kapkapiii witnessed a surge in interest on BookMyShow, this didn't translate into substantial advance bookings. Pinkvilla reported that the film sold only around 1000 tickets in the top three national chains (PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis) for its opening day, indicating a heavy reliance on spot bookings and word-of-mouth.

Critics have offered mixed reviews of Kapkapiii. A review in Times Now noted that the film starts off as harmless fun, but the story becomes increasingly convoluted, eventually losing both its humor and scares. They noted that Shreyas Talpade is the only one who truly understands the comic timing the genre demands, but with limited material, there's only so much he can do.

FilmiBeat reported the film collected ₹0.26 Cr worldwide on its opening day and has accumulated ₹0.29 Cr to date.

Despite the slow start, there is a glimmer of hope for Kapkapiii. According to Pinkvilla, the film has received decent word-of-mouth, which could potentially lead to increased foot traffic over the weekend.
