Mohan Bhagwat: National Security is a Civilizational Duty, Compelling Our Action and Leaving Us No Alternative.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has recently emphasized that national security is not merely a matter of policy or military strength but a fundamental civilizational duty for India. He articulated this view amidst growing concerns over border threats and the need for the nation to be powerful and self-reliant. Bhagwat's statement underscores a broader vision of national security rooted in societal values, unity, and the preservation of India's cultural identity.

Bhagwat argued that India has "no option" but to be powerful, given the "wickedness of the evil forces on all our borders." This isn't about dominating world trade but ensuring every citizen can live peacefully, healthily, and empowered. He stressed that true security originates within society and not solely from the state, urging citizens to defend themselves instead of waiting for external help. This call to action resonates with military doctrines prioritizing readiness and forward mobility.

Bhagwat's emphasis on strength aligns with the RSS's long-held belief in the importance of a capable defense. He stated that the country must strive for such strength that even if multiple powers combine, they cannot conquer us. He noted that while the country is resolutely committed to global harmony and welfare, the world has now seen the country's formidable strength. He added that others pay heed to the "language of peace" only from the one who possesses power. He also highlighted the importance of combining strength with righteousness, suggesting that power without direction can lead to violence and that wickedness should be eradicated forcefully only when no other option is available.

The RSS chief's perspective also encompasses the idea of "Swa," which refers to deep-rootedness in civilizational identity. This concept suggests that a strong sense of cultural awareness and national pride is essential for maintaining internal cohesion and resilience against external threats. He emphasized that the entire Hindu society is the custodian of this nation, and the nature and culture of this country are Hindu.

Bhagwat's call for national security as a civilizational duty comes at a time when India faces various internal and external challenges. He was speaking ahead of the Sangh's centenary celebrations. His remarks also came after recent military confrontation between India and Pakistan. He also commented on the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, and said that others will worry about the Hindus only when the community is strong enough. In light of these events, Bhagwat's words serve as a reminder of the importance of unity, vigilance, and a commitment to upholding the nation's values and heritage.

The RSS chief's views on national security are intertwined with the organization's broader vision for India. This vision includes fostering social harmony, promoting quality education, respecting women, and preserving the environment. These elements are seen as integral to building a strong and prosperous nation capable of safeguarding its interests and contributing to global peace and stability.
