Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his recent address, lauded the significant role played by "Made in India" technology and weaponry in the success of Operation Sindoor. He emphasized that the operation was not merely a military achievement but a testament to India's growing self-reliance and technological prowess in the defense sector. Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

PM Modi highlighted the precision and accuracy with which Indian forces struck at terrorist infrastructure across the border, emphasizing that "Made in India" weapons, equipment, and technology significantly contributed to the victory. He credited India's home-grown defense capabilities for the mission's success, aligning it with the spirit of "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" (self-reliant India).

The Prime Minister asserted that the operation showcased the ultimate bravery of Indian soldiers, supported by the power of indigenous weapons, equipment, and technology. He described Operation Sindoor as a symbol of India's resolve, courage, and transformation, instilling a sense of patriotism throughout the nation.

Operation Sindoor, launched on the intervening night of May 6-7, 2025, followed the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terrorist attack. Indian armed forces targeted nine sites in Pakistan and PoK, destroying known terrorist bases, including the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Muhammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

The Prime Minister highlighted the precision strikes by the Indian Air Force (IAF) against targets in Pakistan, demonstrating restraint and adding a new approach to India's strategic toolkit. He emphasized that the use of cross-border force against terrorist-linked targets in Pakistan has now moved from exception to expectation. Future attacks on Indian soil traced to infrastructure across the border are likely to draw a response of equal or greater magnitude to degrade the assets enabling terrorist actions.

Several indigenous technologies and weapons systems were reportedly deployed during Operation Sindoor. These include:

  • Air Defence Systems: India's Integrated Counter UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Grid and Air Defence systems, comprising a multi-layered technological framework, detected, tracked, and neutralized hostile drones, missiles, and aerial threats. Battle-proven air defense systems like Pechora, OSA-AK, and LLAD guns were also used.
  • BrahMos Missile: The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, co-developed with Russia but now predominantly manufactured in India, was reportedly used to target terror camps. This missile offers unparalleled performance with speeds of nearly Mach 3, delivering superior kinetic impact.
  • Akashteer System: This AI-integrated air defense control and reporting network delivered capabilities comparable to or exceeding those of U.S. systems but at a fraction of the cost.
  • Drones: The integration of drone warfare into India's military doctrine has seen success due to domestic Research and Development (R&D) and policy reform.

The success of Operation Sindoor has boosted sentiments for domestic manufacturing in the country, with a renewed energy visible regarding "Vocal for Local." PM Modi urged citizens to prioritize products made in India, viewing it as participation in nation-building.

Operation Sindoor is not just a story of tactical success but a validation of India's defense indigenization policies. Indigenous technology has delivered when it mattered most, from air defense systems to drones and net-centric warfare platforms. The fusion of private-sector innovation, public-sector execution, and military vision has enabled India to defend its people and territory and assert its role as a hi-tech military power in the 21st century.

The operation has been celebrated across the country, with expressions of patriotism ranging from poems on social media to paintings by children and Tiranga Yatras. Furthermore, some families have named children born during this period "Sindoor," signifying the operation's impact on the national psyche.

Operation Sindoor marks a turning point in India's approach to counter-terrorism and highlights the growing importance of indigenous technology in ensuring national security.
