A wave of grief and outrage has swept through Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district following the discovery of a brutal triple murder. A 58-year-old man, Lalji, and his two sons, Yadveer (32) and Guddu (25), were found dead at their welding workshop near the Newada bypass under the Zafarabad police station area. The gruesome discovery was made on Monday morning, May 26, 2025, when an acquaintance arrived to deliver breakfast and found the scene.
Police investigations suggest the victims were attacked on Sunday night. The assailants used heavy, blunt objects, including iron rods and hammers, to crush their skulls. The attackers then dragged the bodies into an adjacent room and locked it from the outside, in an attempt to conceal the crime. Forensic teams recovered a mobile phone, iron rod, and a hammer from the scene. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Adding a layer of intrigue to the case, the digital video recorder (DVR) connected to the workshop's CCTV system was missing, suggesting the perpetrators were familiar with the premises and sought to eliminate any visual evidence. Authorities suspect the crime was committed by someone known to the victims. The family is being questioned as part of the investigation.
News of the triple murder has triggered widespread protests. Relatives and villagers gathered at the scene, attempting to block the highway multiple times. Senior police officers intervened to pacify the crowd and maintain order. A heavy police force has been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest.
Jaunpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Kaushtubh, who inspected the site, has formed eight teams, supervised by an additional superintendent of police and two circle officers, including a special operations group, to investigate the case and apprehend the culprits. The entire area has been cordoned off as the investigation progresses.
Lalji's wife, Prabhavati, stated that her husband and sons would typically leave for the welding shop together at 8 am and return between 7 and 8 pm daily. On the night of the murder, they did not return home. Initially, the family assumed they were caught up with work. However, when they remained absent the following morning, a relative went to the shop with breakfast and discovered the horrific scene.
Authorities have registered a case under sections 101 (murder), 103 (punishment for murder), and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against four individuals, including one named person, based on a complaint filed by a family member of the deceased.
Additional Director General of Police (ADG) of the Varanasi zone, Piyush Mordia, and Inspector General of Police (IG) of the Varanasi range, Vaibhav Krishna, also visited the crime scene. They have directed the formation of a special police team to expedite the arrest of those responsible. Investigators are also exploring the possibility of a prior dispute between the victims and others in the area as a potential motive.
