Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Gujarat on May 26th and 27th, 2025, marking his first visit to his home state following Operation Sindoor. The visit was characterized by a series of inaugurations, foundation stone laying ceremonies, and vibrant roadshows, showcasing a commitment to infrastructure development and public welfare.
The Prime Minister's itinerary included a mega launch of development projects worth approximately Rs 82,000 crore. The initiatives span across various sectors, including urban development, water supply, transportation, and industrial manufacturing, demonstrating a holistic approach to regional advancement.
The first day of the visit commenced with the inauguration of the Loco Manufacturing Shop-Rolling Stock Workshop in Dahod, followed by a public address in Kharod, Dahod. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for railway and other government projects worth Rs 24,000 crore, significantly boosting the region's infrastructure. A key highlight was the flagging off of the Somnath–Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express and the inauguration of a railway production unit in Dahod, developed with an investment exceeding Rs 21,000 crore under the 'Make in India' campaign.
Further emphasizing the focus on basic infrastructure, PM Modi dedicated four group water supply schemes, built at a cost of Rs 181 crore. These schemes aim to provide 100 LPCD (Litres Per Capita Per Day) of clean drinking water to over 4.62 lakh people in 193 villages and one town across Mahisagar and Dahod districts.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister visited Bhuj, where he unveiled development works worth over Rs 53,000 crore. These transformative projects encompass port infrastructure at Kandla, renewable energy initiatives, power transmission systems, and enhanced road connectivity, benefiting key districts such as Kutch, Jamnagar, Amreli, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Ahmedabad, Tapi, and Mahisagar.
Adding a personal touch to the visit, PM Modi led a 3-kilometer-long roadshow from Ahmedabad Airport to Indira Bridge in the evening. The roadshow was met with enthusiastic participation from over 50,000 BJP workers and citizens, who showered flower petals as the Prime Minister waved at the crowd. He then stayed overnight at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar.
The second day, May 27, 2025, started with another roadshow in Gandhinagar. Following the roadshow, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 5,536 crore at Mahatma Mandir. Key projects included the dedication of 22,055 houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, built at a cost of Rs 1,006 crore, and the foundation stone laying of Phase-3 of the Sabarmati Riverfront project, with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore. Furthermore, cheques worth Rs 3,300 crore were distributed to urban local bodies under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. The Prime Minister also participated in the celebrations of 20 years of the Gujarat Urban Growth Story and launched the Urban Development Year 2025 in Gandhinagar. He also launched the Urban Development Year 2025, Gujarat's Urban development plan and the State Clean Air Programme in Gandhinagar, inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for multiple projects related to urban development, health, and water supply.
