Netflix is doubling down on some of its most popular Indian series, renewing "The Royals," "Black Warrant," and "Maamla Legal Hai" for second seasons. This announcement comes as a welcome surprise to fans who have enjoyed the unique storylines and compelling characters of these shows.

"The Royals," a romantic comedy starring Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar, will be returning for a second season despite mixed reviews from critics. The series, which premiered earlier this month, follows the story of a reluctant heir to the royal throne and a driven entrepreneur who team up to transform a palace into a bed and breakfast. While some viewers found the show's plot and acting to be lacking, it still managed to trend in 58 countries, proving its popularity with a global audience. Rangita Pritish Nandy, the co-creator of "The Royals," has stated that the team is still assessing the first season's learnings to enhance the upcoming season. She also hinted at the introduction of new royalty and deeper exploration of the existing characters' inner worlds, while maintaining the romantic comedy core of the show.

Joining "The Royals" is the critically acclaimed prison drama "Black Warrant," created by Vikramaditya Motwane. The series offers a gritty portrayal of life inside Tihar Jail, one of Asia's largest prisons, through the eyes of jailer Sunil Kumar Gupta. Zahan Kapoor will reprise his role as Gupta, navigating the complex power dynamics and moral dilemmas within the prison system. Netflix India has already released a first-look poster for Season 2, featuring a stern Kapoor in uniform and teasing a deeper dive into the jailer's personal struggles and the minds of India's most notorious criminals. The first season, which premiered in January 2025, was a hit with viewers, garnering 2.3 million viewers in its first three days.

Adding to the excitement, "Maamla Legal Hai," the quirky comedy set in a fictitious district court in East Delhi, will also be returning for a second season. The show, which stars Ravi Kishan, received positive reviews for its unique blend of legal humor and drama. Sameer Saxena, the show's creator, has promised new quirky cases and characters while retaining the essence of the first season. The series revolves around the eccentric lawyers of Patparganj court, with Ravi Kishan's portrayal of the cunning advocate VD Tyagi leading the ensemble cast. Fans can expect more laughter and courtroom banter as the team tackles unusual cases. Dinesh Lal Yadav, also known as Nirahua, and Kusha Kapila are joining the cast for the second season.

The return of these three shows highlights Netflix's commitment to providing diverse and engaging content for its Indian audience. While "The Royals" aims to deliver lighthearted romance and comedy, "Black Warrant" offers a darker, more intense look at the criminal justice system, and "Maamla Legal Hai" blends humor with legal drama. The streaming giant is bringing back stories that have resonated with viewers and have "carved a place in viewers hearts with their unforgettable characters, distinctive storytelling, and worlds that linger long after the credits roll."
