Ronald Fenty, the father of global superstar Rihanna, has passed away at the age of 70. News of his death emerged on Saturday, May 31, 2025, with reports indicating that he died in Los Angeles following a brief illness. Starcom Network News, a Barbados-based outlet, was the first to report the news.

While the specific cause and date of death have not been officially revealed, sources indicate that his family was by his side in his final moments. Rihanna's brother, Rajad Fenty, was seen arriving at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on May 28, with reports suggesting Rihanna was also present.

Ronald Fenty's life and relationship with Rihanna were complex. Born in Barbados, Ronald Fenty raised Rihanna with her mother, Monica Braithwaite. The family resided in a modest bungalow in Bridgetown, Barbados, on a street that was later renamed Rihanna Drive in honor of Rihanna's global success. Ronald and Monica also have two sons, Rajad and Rorrey. The couple separated during Rihanna's childhood and officially divorced in 2002 when Rihanna was 14 years old. Ronald Fenty also has three other children, daughters Samantha and Kandy, and a son named Jamie, from previous relationships.

Rihanna and her father's relationship was marked by periods of estrangement and reconciliation. A particularly strained period followed the traumatic 2009 incident in which Rihanna was assaulted by her then-boyfriend, Chris Brown. Ronald Fenty faced criticism for speaking to the media about the situation without Rihanna's consent. Rihanna later described the situation as "really strange."

Despite the challenges, Rihanna and her father appeared to have worked towards rebuilding their relationship in recent years.

The news of Ronald Fenty's death comes at a significant time for Rihanna, who is currently pregnant with her third child with partner A$AP Rocky. Fans have been sharing their condolences and support for Rihanna on social media.
