Pooja Hegde, currently immersed in several projects, is reuniting with Thalapathy Vijay in the upcoming film Jana Nayagan. This film holds particular significance as it marks Vijay's last cinematic venture before he fully transitions into his political career. In a recent interview, Hegde shared her sentiments about working with Vijay again, acknowledging the "bittersweet" nature of the project.
Hegde expressed excitement about collaborating with Vijay once more, recalling their successful pairing in Beast, particularly the popularity of the song "Arabic Kuthu." She praised Vijay's professionalism and kindness, noting how he creates an "effortless" atmosphere on set. However, she also admitted to feeling emotional, recognizing that Jana Nayagan represents the culmination of Vijay's illustrious film career before he dedicates himself to politics.
As a fan of Vijay's work, Hegde emphasized the joy his films have brought to audiences, expressing her hope that Jana Nayagan will be celebrated as a tribute to his cinematic journey. "A part of me is sad that it's his last film because we love to watch his films, and I mean, I love his films. And more than anything, it should just be treated as a celebration," she stated.
Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth, features Vijay, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol in leading roles. The film boasts a strong supporting cast, including Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Mamitha Baiju. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for the film. Rapper Hanumankind will also lend his voice to one of the songs. There are also rumors that Shruti Haasan may make a cameo appearance, though this has not been officially confirmed.
The film's production team wrapped up shooting with Vijay at the end of May 2025. A grand farewell celebration had been planned, inviting the crew and fans. However, Vijay respectfully declined, explaining that he tends to become overly emotional on such occasions.
Jana Nayagan is slated for release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with Pongal. The film is expected to be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Vijay's decision to leave the film industry follows his establishment of the political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in February 2024. He has stated his intention to dedicate his life to public service as a politician. Jana Nayagan is his 69th film.
Adding an interesting dimension, the filmmakers have reportedly secured the remake rights to Bhagavanth Kesari for a specific purpose. A powerful scene from the Nandamuri Balakrishna starrer, which explains the concept of "Good Touch, Bad Touch," will be adapted into Jana Nayagan.
