Audible is set to release a star-studded, global audio adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, premiering on September 9, 2025. This Audible Original, produced in collaboration with Brock Media, boasts an impressive cast led by Marisa Abela and Harris Dickinson. The adaptation will be available in six languages: English, Castilian Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese, with each version featuring a locally sourced ensemble cast.
Marisa Abela, known for her roles in Industry and Back to Black, will star as Elizabeth Bennet in the English-language production. Harris Dickinson, a BAFTA and BIFA nominee recognized for his work in Babygirl and The Iron Claw, will portray Mr. Darcy. This adaptation promises a fresh perspective by incorporating Elizabeth's inner thoughts and feelings, offering listeners a more intimate connection to the character.
Abela expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating that Elizabeth Bennet is "one of the most fiercely intelligent and iconic characters in literature," and she feels honored to step into her shoes. She also noted that the adaptation allows listeners to experience Elizabeth's inner world vividly, making it feel both timeless and fresh. Dickinson shared similar sentiments, saying that playing Mr. Darcy gave him "a whole new appreciation" for the character and the novel. He added that being part of such a talented cast was a privilege.
The supporting cast includes Will Poulter as Mr. Wickham, Jessie Buckley as Caroline Bingley, Glenn Close as the formidable Lady Catherine de Bourgh, and Bill Nighy as Mr. Bennet. The Bennet family will also be brought to life by Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Sophie Wilde, Antonia Salib, Patricia Allison, and Aasiya Shah. David Gyasi will play Mr. Gardiner.
Lulu Raczka, known for her work on Women, Beware the Devil, adapted the novel for audio, while Dionne Edwards, director of Pretty Red Dress and A Thousand Blows, makes her audio drama directorial debut. The production features Dolby Atmos cinematic sound design by Brain Audio and an original score by Grammy-nominated composer Morgan Kibby.
