A month ago, on the 6th of May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, delivering a strong message to Pakistan regarding its support for terrorism. This address followed the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22nd, 2025, where 26 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives. The attack sparked outrage in India and led to a series of retaliatory actions.
In his address, Modi reminded Pakistan of "Operation Sindoor," India's response to the Pahalgam attack. He stated that the operation, which involved strikes against terror hubs inside Pakistani territory, served as a reminder of Pakistan's "shameful defeat." Modi emphasized that the Indian Armed Forces had been given full authority to eliminate terrorists and that any attempt to harm India would be met with severe consequences.
Modi accused Pakistan of being against humanity, tourism, and the livelihood of Kashmiris, stating that the Pahalgam attack was an assault on these values. He reiterated that India would not bow down to terrorism and that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir were united in this fight. He also asserted that the world had witnessed Pakistan's grim reality during Operation Sindoor when top Pakistani military officials openly stood in solidarity with terrorists.
The Prime Minister's statements came during a period of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. Following the Pahalgam attack, India launched missile strikes targeting what it termed as "terrorist infrastructure" in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan condemned these strikes as an "act of war," and both countries engaged in a series of diplomatic and military measures.
Modi made it clear that any future talks with Pakistan would only focus on terrorism and the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). He emphasized that "terror and talks cannot go hand in hand, terror and trade cannot go hand in hand, water and blood cannot flow together." Modi also cautioned Pakistan that its continued support for terrorism would ultimately lead to its own destruction, emphasizing that "one day the terror it is sponsoring will finish off Pakistan." He urged Pakistan to dismantle its terror infrastructure, stating that there was no other way out for them.
In the weeks following Operation Sindoor, the situation between India and Pakistan remained tense but relatively stable. Both countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10th, after three days of military operations. However, the underlying issues of cross-border terrorism and the status of Kashmir continued to be a source of conflict.
Recently, on June 6, 2025, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Chenab Bridge and flagged off the Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra to Srinagar. During this visit, he again referred to Operation Sindoor and its impact on Pakistan. Modi's remarks served as a reminder to Pakistan that India would not tolerate terrorism and was prepared to take strong action to protect its interests. He promised the people of Jammu and Kashmir that he would not let development stop, and if any hurdle came in the way, it would have to face Modi first, a clear reference to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. He lauded the people of Jammu and Kashmir for standing up against the conspiracy of Pakistan, stating that their strength had sent a strong message to Pakistan and to terrorism all over the world.
