A wedding video purportedly showing Sonam Raghuvanshi and her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, has gone viral in the wake of the latter's death and Sonam's subsequent arrest in connection with his murder. The couple, from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, had recently married on May 11, 2025, and embarked on a honeymoon to Meghalaya on May 20. Tragedy struck when Raja's body was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls, a popular tourist spot. Sonam was later found in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and is now accused of plotting her husband’s murder.
The emergence of the wedding video has added another layer to the already complex and disturbing case. News outlets have shared the footage, highlighting a perceived lack of emotion from Sonam during the ceremony. In the video, Raja is seen applying sindoor to Sonam's forehead, a traditional Hindu ritual symbolizing marriage. Online reactions to the video have been widespread, with many netizens commenting on Sonam's "expressionless" demeanor. Some have gone as far as to suggest that she appeared "unhappy" during the wedding, fueling speculation about the nature of their relationship.
The timing of the video's circulation, just hours after Sonam's arrest, has amplified its impact. The Meghalaya police have alleged that Sonam hired a group of men to kill her husband during their honeymoon. According to reports, three men have been arrested in connection with the case. The police investigation suggests a premeditated plan, with a bloodstained machete allegedly used in the murder recovered from the scene.
However, Sonam's father, Devi Singh, has vehemently defended his daughter, claiming her innocence and accusing the Meghalaya police of fabricating the story. He asserts that the marriage was consensual and that his daughter could not be capable of such a crime. He has called for a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) probe into the matter, alleging that the Meghalaya police are attempting to frame his daughter.
Adding to the intrigue, Raja's brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, has also called for a CBI investigation, expressing dissatisfaction with the Meghalaya Police's handling of the case. He stated that the family was not properly informed by the police and that their attempts to contact officials in Shillong were ignored. Vipul mentioned that Raja and Sonam seemed happy together and that they never witnessed any fights between them.
Meanwhile, new details continue to surface. A local tour guide reported seeing the couple with three other Hindi-speaking tourists on the day they disappeared. The guide noted that Sonam was walking behind the men and that they were conversing in Hindi, a language he did not understand well.
The owner of the dhaba where Sonam was found in Uttar Pradesh has also provided a statement, recounting that Sonam arrived alone, visibly upset, and asked to use his phone to contact her family. He stated that she appeared to be unwell and crying during the call.
As the investigation unfolds, the viral wedding video and the reactions it has generated reflect the public's fascination with this tragic case. The video, coupled with the conflicting accounts and unanswered questions, has fueled intense speculation and debate about the circumstances surrounding Raja Raghuvanshi's death and Sonam Raghuvanshi's alleged involvement. The case remains a subject of intense scrutiny, with many awaiting further developments and a definitive resolution.
