A wedding video has surfaced showing Raja Raghuvanshi, the groom, beaming with joy as he applies sindoor to his bride, Sonam. The video, now widely circulated, contrasts sharply with the grim reality that unfolded shortly after. Sonam is now in police custody, accused of orchestrating Raja's murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.
The couple's story, which began with a traditional wedding on May 11, took a dark turn just days later. They embarked on their honeymoon on May 20, but the trip ended in tragedy when Raja's body was discovered in a gorge on June 2. The police have alleged that Sonam hired hitmen to kill her husband, and she has since surrendered to authorities.
Adding to the intrigue, Raja's brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, has revealed that Sonam was in frequent contact with Raj Kushwaha, an employee from her family's business. Police suspect Kushwaha was Sonam's accomplice. According to police reports, Sonam shared her location with the alleged killers and had long conversations with Kushwaha, with whom she was allegedly having an affair.
The sudden change in honeymoon plans has also raised suspicions. The couple initially intended to visit the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, but they abruptly changed course for Shillong. Sonam's family was unaware of the altered itinerary.
Adding another layer to the case, Raja's mother claimed that Sonam insisted Raja wear gold jewelry worth ₹10 lakh for the honeymoon. A gold ring and neck chain were missing from Raja's body when it was found, intensifying suspicions of foul play.
Sonam's father, Devi Singh, has refuted the allegations against his daughter, claiming that the Meghalaya police are fabricating the story. He insists on a CBI inquiry, maintaining his daughter's innocence. He stated that Sonam contacted her brother, who informed him she was at a dhaba in Ghazipur.
Authorities apprehended Sonam in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after she contacted her family. She will be handed over to Meghalaya police for further investigation. In addition to Sonam, police have arrested Akash Rajput, Raj Kushwaha, Vikash Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi in connection with the murder.
The case has sparked public outrage, with Raja's mother demanding the death penalty for Sonam if she is found guilty. The investigation is ongoing, with police focusing on call records, CCTV footage, and financial transactions to unravel the full truth behind Raja's murder. The Meghalaya Police are working to bring Sonam to Shillong for further questioning.
