A controversy has erupted at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi following a video circulating on social media purportedly showing Tej Pratap Yadav, son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Bihar minister, inside the temple's restricted "Red Zone." The Kashi Vishwanath Temple administration has taken swift action, ordering a thorough investigation into the matter.
The "Red Zone" within the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor encompasses the temple premises, where the use of mobile phones and cameras is strictly prohibited. This regulation aims to maintain the sanctity and security of the revered shrine. The video in question, which has been widely shared across social media platforms, allegedly depicts Yadav within this restricted area, potentially violating the established rules.
Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kashi Vishwanath Temple, confirmed that the temple administration became aware of the video through social media and various news outlets. In response, the administration has formally notified the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the local police, who are responsible for the temple's security.
Mishra stated that a letter has been sent to senior officials of the Police and CRPF, requesting them to investigate and take appropriate action against whoever is guilty and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.
The CEO emphasized that the inner area of the temple is a restricted zone, and mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside. He clarified that while photography is generally prohibited, the temple provides official photographs of VIPs and devotees upon request, taken by the temple's designated cameraman. The video of Yadav inside the restricted area is thus considered a violation of the established protocols.
The investigation seeks to verify the authenticity of the video and identify any individuals responsible for the alleged breach of security and regulations. The agencies have been requested to ensure strict adherence to the prescribed rules and guidelines within the temple premises. The CEO has warned that if any violation of rules is found at any level, appropriate legal action will be taken against the concerned individuals.
This incident adds to a series of recent challenges for Tej Pratap Yadav. Just weeks prior, on May 25, 2025, RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav expelled him from the party and declared that he "shall have nothing to do with the family.".
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, one of the most important and revered Hindu temples, attracts millions of pilgrims annually. To manage the flow of devotees and ensure the safety and security of the temple, the administration has implemented strict guidelines and restrictions, particularly within the inner sanctum and surrounding areas. These rules are designed to preserve the sanctity of the temple and provide a peaceful environment for worship.
