In a concerted effort to dismantle terror networks, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched multiple raids across the Poonch district. These operations, conducted on Sunday, June 15, 2025, targeted several locations in Soujian and surrounding areas, aiming to disrupt terror infrastructure and thwart attempts by Pakistan-based terrorists to recruit local youth for subversive activities.
The raids are part of a broader crackdown to weaken terrorist support systems in the region. Authorities are focused on preventing Pakistan-based terrorist groups from exploiting local contacts to motivate and recruit vulnerable young individuals into carrying out unlawful activities. This follows similar operations earlier in the month, where police raided over five dozen locations targeting Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in the border district.
Specifically, the recent raids targeted eight locations in Soujian and adjacent areas. The police are gathering leads related to cross-border connections and potential local support networks for active militants. Many of the terror commanders are believed to be originally from Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier in June, the Special Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids in the same district concerning a narco-terror funding case. These raids, which took place on June 11, 2025, targeted homes in the Sawjian area, resulting in the confiscation of three mobile phones from suspects. The SIA is actively probing financial links between terrorist organizations and individuals or groups in the region, with previous raids conducted on May 23 targeting premises linked to narco-terrorism funding.
The ongoing operations highlight the multi-pronged approach being adopted by security forces to counter terrorism in the Poonch district. By targeting both the physical infrastructure and the financial networks that sustain terrorist activities, authorities aim to create a more secure environment and prevent the radicalization of local youth. The focus on disrupting cross-border connections underscores the importance of addressing external influences that contribute to the region's instability.
