The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the Raigad district in Maharashtra, forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall for today, June 16, 2025. This alert signifies that authorities should take action to prevent major disruptions due to the severe weather.
The monsoon has become active, leading the Meteorological Department to predict an increase in rainfall intensity throughout the day across various regions of Maharashtra. Besides the red alert for Raigad, an orange alert has been issued for Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and the ghat sections of Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur, indicating the possibility of very heavy rainfall in these areas. A yellow alert, which signifies that heavy rain is likely at isolated places, is in effect for Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Nashik ghat section, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Gadchiroli.
The weather bureau has also predicted thunderstorms with lightning in Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Washim, Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli districts. Citizens in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during the storms.
In response to the heavy rain forecast, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a warning for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including the city and its suburbs. The BMC has urged citizens to contact their main control room helpline number, 1916, for assistance in emergencies or for official information.
The heavy rainfall has already begun to impact daily life in Mumbai. The Central, Western, and Harbour Railways are experiencing delays of 5 to 10 minutes. Vasai-Virar has been experiencing heavy rainfall since Sunday evening, resulting in the submergence of many low-lying areas and causing disruptions to traffic and normal life.
Looking ahead, the IMD forecasts isolated heavy rainfall over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch between June 18th and 21st, and in the Gujarat Region on June 18th and 19th. Very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Konkan & Goa from June 16th-18th, and over Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra & Kutch from June 16th-17th. The Gujarat Region may experience extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm/24 hours) at isolated places on June 16th.

Raigad is experiencing rain with a 75% chance of precipitation and a temperature of 69°F (21°C), feeling like 76°F (24°C) with 95% humidity.
