A building collapse in the Masani area of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, has triggered protests by local residents who are demanding accountability and support in the aftermath of the tragic incident. The collapse, which occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2025, resulted in the deaths of three people, including two young children, identified as Totaram (35), Kajal and Yashoda. Several others are feared to have been trapped under the debris.
The incident prompted immediate rescue operations by Mathura police and Municipal Corporation teams. Emergency services, including the Fire Services, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), and SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), were deployed to the site to assist in the search and rescue efforts. Mathura Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Sanjeev Yadav confirmed that three individuals were extracted from the debris but were declared dead upon arrival at the district hospital. Multiple ambulances and response teams remained on standby to provide continued emergency support.
In response to the tragedy and the ensuing public outcry, City Magistrate Rakesh Kumar has assured the affected families that the government will provide financial aid and alternative accommodation. According to Kumar, arrangements are being made to provide immediate relief and compensation to those who have lost their homes and loved ones. Authorities have evacuated five buildings in the vicinity and are planning to vacate more as a precautionary measure. An investigation into the cause of the collapse is currently underway.
SSP Mathura, Shlok Kumar, stated that the building, located in the Masani area under the Govind Nagar Police Station limits, collapsed on Sunday afternoon. Rescue operations were initiated promptly, and one person was rescued in stable condition. The focus remains on clearing the debris and ensuring that anyone still trapped receives immediate assistance.
Preliminary reports suggest that the collapse may have been triggered by excavation work for a parking lot nearby. This excavation is suspected to have weakened the foundations of the adjacent houses, leading to the structural failure. Some residents reported that the digging work had commenced without prior notice, exacerbating the situation.
Mathura-Vrindavan MLA Shrikant Sharma has pledged to bring the matter to the attention of the Chief Minister and request a thorough probe into the incident. He emphasized that if a land mafia is found to be involved, strict action will be taken against them.
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has also stepped in to offer support measures, including alternative accommodation, technical and legal assistance, and professional emotional support to help those affected cope with the trauma. The authority is maintaining regular contact with the local council to coordinate assistance efforts and ensure that all necessary support is provided during this difficult time.
As the investigation progresses, authorities are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with the ongoing rescue and relief operations. The priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all those affected by the building collapse and to provide them with the necessary resources to rebuild their lives.
