The inaugural Gaddar Telangana Film Awards (TGFA) ceremony, held on June 14, 2025, at Hitex in Hyderabad, witnessed a glittering celebration of Telugu cinema, marking the first time the state has felicitated its film industry since its formation in 2014. The awards, revived by the Telangana government in honor of the revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, saw a galaxy of stars and filmmakers in attendance, but it was Allu Arjun who truly stole the show.
The "Pushpa" star was awarded the Best Leading Actor award for his performance in "Pushpa 2: The Rule". Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy presented the award to Allu Arjun amidst thunderous applause. The event was also graced by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Film Development Corporation chairman Dil Raju.
Allu Arjun, visibly honored, dedicated the award to his director Sukumar and the entire "Pushpa" team, including his fans. "All credit goes to my director Sukumar, my producers and the entire Pushpa team. I dedicate this award to all my fans," he stated, acknowledging the collective effort behind the film's success.
"Pushpa 2: The Rule" has been a box office phenomenon, grossing over ₹1800 crore worldwide. The film, directed by Sukumar, sees Allu Arjun reprise his role as Pushpa Raj, alongside Rashmika Mandanna as his love interest, Srivalli, and Fahadh Faasil as the antagonist. The supporting cast includes notable actors like Rao Ramesh and Jagapathi Babu.
The Gaddar Telangana Film Awards recognized excellence across various categories. Nag Ashwin won Best Director for "Kalki 2898 AD," which was also adjudged the Best Feature Film. Nivetha Thomas received the Best Leading Actress award for her role in "35 Chinna Katha Kadhu." Veteran actor Nandamuri Balakrishna was honored with the 'NTR National Film Award', while director Mani Ratnam received the 'Paidi Jairaj Film Award'.
The awards ceremony also acknowledged films released between 2014 and 2023, years after the state bifurcation. A special jury headed by veteran actor Jayasudha reviewed over 1,248 nominations to ensure a fair evaluation process.
Adding to the film's success, a reloaded version of "Pushpa 2: The Rule," featuring an additional 20 minutes of footage, was released in theaters on January 17, 2025. The extended cut included new scenes and dialogues, taking the runtime to 220 minutes.
