The National Investigation Agency (NIA) continues its crackdown on terror networks operating in Punjab, filing chargesheets against key operatives linked to Khalistani terrorist groups. These actions highlight the NIA's commitment to dismantling terror conspiracies and maintaining peace and security in the region.
In a recent development, the NIA chargesheeted Jatinder Singh, also known as Joti, a close associate of Lakhbir Singh Landa, a prominent figure in the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), and gangster Pavittar Batala. The chargesheet was presented before a special NIA court in Mohali. Jatinder Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, was apprehended by the NIA in Mumbai on December 23 of last year. Investigations revealed Jatinder Singh's involvement in the illicit procurement and supply of firearms from Madhya Pradesh to various Punjab-based gangsters. He played a crucial role in facilitating the delivery of weapons to Batala's ground operatives. Batala, himself a close associate of the designated terrorist Landa, had his foreign-based associates coordinating Jatinder Singh's operations within India.
Prior to this, the NIA filed a chargesheet against two key associates of Lakhbir Singh Landa, identified as Jaspreet Singh and Baljeet Singh, in a Punjab terror conspiracy case. Jaspreet Singh was identified as an on-ground operative for Landa and his associate, Pattu Khaira, actively involved in drug smuggling and extortion to generate funds for BKI's operations. Baljeet Singh was instrumental in manufacturing and supplying weapons to members of the Landa gang. He utilized social media platforms to distribute these weapons across different regions and was a key supplier in a nationwide network of arms dealers linked to the gang. The NIA seized a significant cache of arms, ammunition, narcotics, drug money, digital devices, and other incriminating evidence connected to the accused.
Furthermore, the NIA has also been actively investigating cases related to grenade attacks in Punjab. Recently, the agency filed a chargesheet against Yugpreet Singh, Jaskaran Singh, and Harjot Singh in connection with a 2024 grenade attack at a police post in SBS Nagar district of Punjab. This attack was linked to a conspiracy orchestrated by the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF). Investigations revealed that Jagjit Singh Lahiri, a member operative of KZF based in the UK, had recruited Yugpreet Singh and radicalized him through encrypted messaging applications. Jagga had also provided Yugpreet with terror funds, which were used to recruit the other two accused and carry out the attack.
These chargesheets demonstrate the NIA's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and dismantle terror networks in Punjab. The agency is actively pursuing investigations into terror attacks, targeted killings, and conspiracies aimed at destabilizing the region. The NIA's actions are crucial in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Punjab. The investigations are ongoing, with the NIA aiming to uncover further details about the terror network's operations, funding, and collaborators.
