A shocking incident has emerged from Sangli district, Maharashtra, where a 16-year-old girl was allegedly bludgeoned to death by her father for performing poorly on a test. The accused, identified as Dhondiram Bhosale, a 45-year-old school teacher, has been arrested in connection with the crime.
The tragic event occurred on Saturday night in Nelkaranji village, located in the Atpadi tehsil. According to police reports, Bhosale was upset with his daughter, Sadhana, a Class 12 student, for scoring low marks on a recent test. This led to a heated argument between the father and daughter. In a fit of rage, Bhosale reportedly grabbed the wooden handle of a stone grinder, typically used for making flour, and attacked Sadhana in the presence of his wife and son.
Sadhana was rushed to a hospital in Sangli, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. A post-mortem examination revealed that the cause of death was multiple injuries. Senior Inspector Vinay Bahir of Atpadi police station confirmed the details and stated that the accused was arrested based on a complaint filed by the girl's mother.
Reports indicate that Sadhana was a NEET aspirant with dreams of becoming a doctor. However, her performance in recent practice tests had fallen short of expectations. It is believed that her father questioned her about this, and her response further infuriated him, leading to the violent outburst. Some reports suggest that the father beat her repeatedly throughout the night, even as his wife tried to intervene. It's also alleged that even after severely injuring his daughter, Bhosale did not take her to the hospital immediately. Instead, he left for school the following morning to attend an International Yoga Day event, leaving his unconscious daughter at home.
The police have registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Bhosale was produced in a local court and has been remanded in police custody for further investigation. Inspector Vinay Bahir, who is leading the investigation, stated that the evidence indicates severe physical trauma as the cause of death, and they are investigating all aspects of the incident. Senior officers from Sangli district police have also visited the scene as part of the investigation.
Neighbors have reported that the family includes an elder son and a younger daughter. Police officials are currently focusing on the mother's statement while also examining whether there were any additional factors that may have led to the assault. A senior official stated that they are treating this as a serious domestic violence case with fatal consequences.
