Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the centenary celebration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today, June 24, 2025. The event, organized by the Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the meeting between these two iconic figures of Indian history.

The original conversation took place on March 12, 1925, at Sivagiri Mutt in Kerala, during Mahatma Gandhi's visit. The discussions revolved around crucial social and spiritual issues of the time, including the Vaikom Satyagraha, religious conversions, non-violence, the abolition of untouchability, the attainment of salvation, and the upliftment of the downtrodden.

The centenary celebration brought together spiritual leaders, scholars, and social reformers to reflect on the enduring significance of the dialogue between Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi. Their shared vision of social justice, unity, and spiritual harmony continues to resonate and shape India's social and moral fabric.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of the dialogue in addressing contemporary challenges. He emphasized the relevance of their teachings in promoting inclusivity, equality, and social harmony. Modi noted that the ideas exchanged between Gandhi and Narayana Guru continue to serve as a guiding light for the nation, particularly in the pursuit of social justice and the empowerment of marginalized communities.

The Prime Minister lauded Sree Narayana Guru's efforts to eradicate social evils and promote education and enlightenment. He also acknowledged Mahatma Gandhi's unwavering commitment to non-violence and his relentless fight against discrimination. Modi stressed that their combined wisdom provides a roadmap for building a stronger, more united, and equitable India.

The event also featured discussions and presentations on the various aspects of the Gandhi-Narayana Guru dialogue. Speakers explored the historical context of the meeting, the key themes discussed, and the lasting impact of their ideas on Indian society. The celebration served as a platform for exchanging ideas and renewing the commitment to the values espoused by these two great leaders. The centenary celebration is a powerful tribute to the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru. Their conversation a century ago continues to inspire and guide India towards a more just and harmonious future. The event at Vigyan Bhawan served as a reminder of the importance of dialogue, understanding, and collective action in addressing the challenges facing the nation and the world.
