In Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, Indian Army troops initiated firing after detecting suspicious movements near the Line of Control (LoC). The incident occurred in a forward area, prompting a large-scale search operation in the region.
According to officials, the suspicious movement of three to four individuals was observed under the cover of dense foliage in the Chingus area of the Keri sector in Rajouri. Alert soldiers responded by firing over two dozen rounds. Simultaneously, a comprehensive search operation was launched, incorporating the use of drones to monitor the area.
Following the gunfire, a massive anti-terrorist operation, including a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO), was initiated by the Indian Army on the LoC in the Keri area of Rajouri district. Reports indicated that the suspicious movement was intercepted by the troops, leading to an exchange of fire with heavy firing heard in the area. Additional reinforcements were immediately deployed to assist in the operation.
While the initial firing was substantial, the search operation has yet to locate the individuals involved. Authorities have not released further details about the identity or motives of the suspected individuals.
In addition to the operation in Rajouri, security forces conducted searches at multiple locations in the Poonch, Samba, and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir. These searches, encompassing more than a dozen places, are part of intensified efforts to maintain security and counter potential threats in the region.
The Indian Army has been actively working to prevent infiltration attempts along the LoC. Just last week, troops successfully foiled an infiltration attempt in the Baratgala area of the Keri sector in Rajouri. On that occasion, suspicious movement was detected, and the army's prompt response forced the infiltrators to retreat to the Pakistani side of the LoC. A search operation was also launched in the Poonch district after locals reported suspicious movement.
These ongoing operations underscore the heightened state of alert and vigilance maintained by security forces in the Jammu and Kashmir region. The army and other security agencies have been intensifying operations against terrorists, overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers to maintain peace and security in the region.
