Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitendra Patwari is facing legal trouble after being booked by the state police for allegedly bribing a villager to make false claims of being fed human excreta. The case was filed on Saturday, June 28, 2025, following an affidavit submitted by the villager, Gajraj Lodhi, in which he alleged that Patwari had instructed him to falsely accuse the Mungaoli village Sarpanch of this heinous act.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Kumar Jain, Lodhi stated in his affidavit that some Congress leaders took him to meet Patwari, who then insisted he make the false allegations and offered him a bribe to do so. SP Jain further told ANI that Lodhi admitted the allegations were false and made at Patwari's demand, leading to the filing of a case against Patwari and his aides under various sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which replaced the Indian Penal Code).
The controversy began when Patwari posted a video on X on June 25, 2025, featuring two men alleging they were fed human excreta. In the video, the men claimed they had been denied the opportunity to file a First Information Report (FIR). Patwari, in his post, targeted the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government, questioning the law and order situation in the state and accusing BJP MLA Brijendra Yadav's supporters of being behind the alleged incident. He also referenced a past incident where a man urinated on a tribal youth, asking why the BJP considers Dalits, backward classes and tribals as enemies.
Patwari, responding to the filing of the case against him, stated that he would continue to raise his voice for the oppressed. He criticized Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and the state of law and order in Madhya Pradesh. He also stated that the opposition should be able to fulfill its responsibility when there are atrocities on farmers and Dalits and the government should take it positively and take action.
Jitendra Patwari's political career began in 2013 when he was elected as an MLA from Rau Vidhan Sabha. He served as the Minister for Higher Education, Sports, and Youth Affairs in Madhya Pradesh. In December 2023, he was appointed as the Madhya Pradesh Congress chief, succeeding Kamal Nath.
