The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has conveyed its profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for the safe evacuation of 1,300 Kashmiri students from Iran, which was experiencing escalating conflict. In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister, the JKSA expressed its appreciation on behalf of thousands of relieved families across the Kashmir Valley.
The association highlighted the immense relief, joy, and emotional solace that the intervention brought to families who had been living in constant fear and uncertainty. The students were reported to be terrified, traumatized, and in extremely vulnerable positions. The JKSA emphasized that the safe return of these students to their homeland brought an end to days of fear and uncertainty, offering much-needed emotional peace and relief.
The JKSA also acknowledged the swift response and prioritization of the students' safety, which led to their successful and timely evacuation. The association noted that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy remained in constant contact from the very first day of the conflict between Iran and Israel. The students also thanked the Indian Embassy in Iran for their coordination and communication on the ground.
The association had initially written to PM Modi seeking urgent intervention for the evacuation of Kashmiri students stranded in Iran amid the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. The letter expressed grave concern over the deteriorating security situation. The JKSA warned that the region was at the brink of a full-scale war, leaving Indian students, especially those from Jammu and Kashmir, terrified and dangerously exposed. Many students were enrolled in colleges and universities located dangerously close to key military installations and strategic targets.
The JKSA also brought attention to an attack near the Hujjatdost Dormitory at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, where two Kashmiri students were injured. Following this incident, the Ministry of External Affairs was alerted, and the students were immediately relocated to safer locations and provided with necessary care. Ultimately, the students were evacuated on 19 special flights under Operation Ganga and returned safely to their respective native places in Kashmir. The JKSA emphasized that the government's response to their appeals ensured that the students' suffering did not go unheard.
