India and Madagascar are engaging in discussions to strengthen their defense ties, with a particular emphasis on maritime security and capacity building. This initiative comes as both nations recognize their shared interests in the Indian Ocean Region.
Sanjay Seth, the Minister of State for Defence, met with Madagascar's Minister of Armed Forces, Lt Gen Sahivelo Lala Monja Delphin, to explore avenues for enhanced defense cooperation. Seth led a high-level Indian delegation on an official visit to Antananarivo, Madagascar, from June 25 to 27, 2025.
The visit coincided with the 65th anniversary celebrations of Madagascar's Independence Day and the creation of the Malagasy Armed Forces. Seth represented India at these celebrations. He also conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Madagascar's Prime Minister, Christian Ntsay, on the occasion of their Independence Day.
In addition to the bilateral meetings, Seth participated in a reception organized by the Indian Embassy in Antananarivo for the Indian community. He updated the diaspora on India's recent developments and its ongoing economic transformation.
