Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's official residence, Bungalow No. 1 on Raj Niwas Marg, is slated for a ₹60 lakh renovation to upgrade electrical fixtures and install new appliances. The Public Works Department (PWD) issued the tender, with bids opening on July 4, 2025, and the work expected to be completed within 60 days.
The renovation project includes the installation of 14 air conditioners worth ₹7.7 lakh and five televisions worth ₹9.3 lakh. Additionally, the residence will receive 14 CCTV cameras (costing ₹5.74 lakh), an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system (worth ₹2 lakh), and 23 remote-controlled ceiling fans (costing ₹1.8 lakh). The kitchen will be outfitted with an OTG (Oven, Toaster, Grill) for ₹85,000, an automatic washing machine for ₹77,000, a dishwasher for ₹60,000, a gas stove for ₹63,000, and a microwave for ₹32,000. Six geysers will also be installed at a cost of ₹91,000. For illumination, the bungalow will have 115 sets of lamps, wall lighters, hanging lights, and three chandeliers.
According to PWD officials, the renovations are necessary to make the building habitable for the Chief Minister's family, as it was previously used as an office for the L-G Secretariat. The first phase of renovation will focus on replacing and augmenting electrical fixtures, while other civil works for the bungalow and modifications to the CM's camp office, an adjoining building, will be taken up in separate tenders. The PWD official noted that 80 light points, fan points, exhausts, and other sections would have to be completely rewired.
CM Rekha Gupta has been allotted two bungalows, No. 1 for her residence and No. 2 as her camp office. She had been residing in Shalimar Bagh since taking office four months prior.
The renovation project has drawn comparisons to the controversy surrounding the previous Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence, which was dubbed "Sheesh Mahal" due to its lavish modifications. CM Gupta addressed these comparisons, stating that her "Sheesh Mahal" is for the people. She also promised to fulfill all the promises PM Modi made and thanked him for choosing her for this position.
