Amidst ongoing debates surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh has strongly criticized the opposition parties for what he describes as shedding "crocodile tears" over the issue. Singh has firmly defended the CAA, asserting that it is designed to grant citizenship to those facing religious persecution in neighboring countries, specifically highlighting the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh.
Singh has accused opposition parties of deliberately spreading misinformation and creating confusion among Indian citizens, particularly within the Muslim community, regarding the CAA. He has made it clear that the CAA is not intended to strip anyone of their citizenship, but rather to provide a path to citizenship for those who have been displaced and persecuted based on their religion in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The Act applies to non-Muslim migrants who arrived in India before December 31, 2014, fleeing religious persecution.
Singh has emphasized the BJP's commitment to fulfilling its promises, citing the CAA's implementation as a testament to this commitment, along with the construction of the Ram Temple and the abrogation of Article 370. He has reiterated that the BJP does not engage in politics based on caste, creed, or religion, but rather stands for nation-building and respects all religions in India. He has also pointed out that the Modi government has conferred the highest civilian honors by West Asian countries.
Addressing concerns about the impact of CAA on Indian Muslims, Singh has stated unequivocally that no Muslim living in India will lose their citizenship. He has accused the opposition of instilling fear and division by claiming the CAA will lead to Muslims being expelled from the country. Singh has said that the BJP believes in "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," meaning the whole world is one family, and respects all religions. He has urged BJP workers to reassure Muslim citizens that the CAA will not affect them and that the party will stand by them if anyone tries to create trouble.
Singh has also touched upon the issue of triple talaq, stating the BJP's opposition to atrocities against women, regardless of their faith. He has emphasized that the abolition of triple talaq demonstrates the party's commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of all women.
Furthermore, Rajnath Singh has asserted that the implementation of the CAA cannot be stopped, even in states like West Bengal where there is opposition to the law. He has criticized leaders who claim they will not allow the CAA in their states, accusing them of misleading the public. Singh warned states against taking actions against the CAA, calling it a "constitutional blunder".
