The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to be held from July 21 to August 21, 2025. This session will be the first since Operation Sindoor. The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has confirmed the schedule, noting that there will be no sittings on August 13 and 14 due to preparations and enhanced security measures for Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the President of India has approved the proposal to convene both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during this period. Both houses are scheduled to convene at 11 a.m. on the opening day. This marks the first parliamentary sitting after a recess of more than three months.
The upcoming Monsoon Session is expected to be eventful, with heated debates anticipated on several significant legislative and political matters. Key issues likely to be discussed include the aftermath of Operation Sindoor and the Delhi High Court judge cash seizure case.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was a response to a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 people. The operation involved strikes on terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to the government, the strikes were necessary to send a strong message and prevent future terror attacks. Following the operation, an all-party delegation was sent to key partner countries to strengthen diplomatic ties and promote India's stance against terrorism on the global stage.
Prior to the announcement of the Monsoon Session schedule, sixteen Opposition parties jointly sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the government to call an urgent session to discuss the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. The government has responded by stating that the issues raised by the Opposition can be addressed during the scheduled Monsoon Session. This move is seen as an attempt to channel all legislative and political deliberations into the scheduled session rather than convening a separate one.
The Budget Session, which took place earlier this year from January 31 to April 4, saw the passage of several important legislations. These included the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025, aimed at strengthening the governance of waqf properties, and the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, which modernizes and simplifies India's immigration laws.
Other key legislations passed during the Budget Session included the National Cooperative University Bill, which enables the establishment of a university focused on the cooperative sector.
