In a tragic incident in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, five people died after a private SUV veered off the road and plunged into a 600-feet gorge late Friday night. The accident occurred near Senabathi in the Ukhral Pogal Paristan area. One person was critically injured in the accident.
Rescuers discovered the body of Tauqeer Ahmad (20) at the scene. The five other critically injured passengers were rushed to a hospital. Three of them, Mohd Rafiq (40), Abdul Latief (40), and Ajaz Ahmad (20), died en route. Shakeel Ahmad (24) died in a Srinagar hospital on Saturday morning. Yawar Ahmad (25), the lone survivor, remains in critical condition.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Union Minister Jitendra Singh have expressed their condolences for the accident and pledged to provide necessary support to the injured and the victims' families. Ramban Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the deceased's next of kin and Rs 25,000 to the injured. According to a post on X by the Deputy Commissioner, all possible support is being extended to the affected families.
In a separate incident in the same district on Friday, another vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge approximately 300 to 500 feet deep near Senabathi Dabdrora, resulting in two fatalities and four injuries. The Tata Sumo was en route from Senabathi to Ukhral when the accident occurred. The deceased were identified as Tawqeel Ahmed and Abdul Latief, both residents of Gujrara Senabathi and Lel Khill Bengara, respectively. The injured, also residents of Gujrara Senabathi, are Shakeel Ahmed, Yawar Ahmed, Mohammad Rafiq, and Ajaz Ahmed Bhat. Rescue teams, along with locals, responded quickly, and the injured were taken to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal for treatment.
