A shocking incident occurred in Maharashtra on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, when a 19-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy on a running sleeper bus and allegedly threw the newborn out of the window with the help of a man claiming to be her husband. The baby died as a result of being thrown onto the road.
The incident took place around 6:30 AM on the Pathri-Selu Road in Parbhani district. The woman, identified as Ritika Dhere, was traveling from Pune to Parbhani with Altaf Shaikh in a Sant Prayag Travels sleeper coach bus. According to police reports, Dhere, who was pregnant, experienced labor pains during the journey and gave birth to a baby boy.
Tragically, the couple wrapped the newborn in a piece of cloth and threw him out of the bus window. The driver of the bus noticed something being thrown out and inquired about it. Shaikh allegedly told the driver that his wife had vomited because she was feeling nauseous.
However, an alert citizen spotted the baby after he was thrown from the bus. The citizen immediately alerted the police by calling the 112 helpline. A local police patrol team responded swiftly and chased down the bus. After a preliminary investigation, the police took Dhere and Shaikh into custody.
During questioning, the couple allegedly confessed that they threw the baby away because they were unable to raise the child. While Dhere and Shaikh claimed to be husband and wife, they could not provide any documentation to prove their marital status.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing outrage and grief over the tragic loss of the newborn's life. This is a developing story, and further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
