Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of actively supporting infiltrators for their own political gains, jeopardizing Bengal's identity and national security. Addressing a rally in Durgapur, West Bengal, Modi asserted that the TMC is creating an "ecosystem of infiltrators" with forged identity cards. He vowed that his government would take strict legal action against illegal immigrants in accordance with the Constitution.
Modi stated that the TMC's actions are driven by "appeasement and vote-bank politics," and that they are "crossing all limits" to support infiltrators. He warned that Bengal's "asmita" (identity) and the country's safety are at stake due to increased infiltration facilitated by the TMC. Modi emphasized the BJP's commitment to Bengali pride and assured that Bengalis are respected in BJP-ruled states.
The Prime Minister's charges come amid rising concerns about national security and reports of Bengali-speaking migrants being detained and deported from some BJP-ruled states. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been vocal in her criticism of these actions, linking them to Bengali identity and accusing the BJP of targeting Bengali-speaking people.
Modi directly addressed these concerns, stating that while Bengalis are respected in BJP-ruled states, the people of West Bengal are suffering due to the TMC's patronage of illegal infiltrators. He alleged that the TMC provides fake Indian identity documents to infiltrators, creating an environment that encourages illegal infiltration and poses a threat to national security and Bengali culture.
Modi also accused the TMC government of hindering West Bengal's development through corruption and violence. He claimed that TMC leaders collect "Gunda Tax," deterring investment and forcing companies to leave the state, resulting in job losses for the youth. He criticized the state of law and order, citing cases of crimes against women, including the rape and murder of a junior medical doctor and the alleged rape of a student at a law college.
The Prime Minister promised to boost infrastructure, connectivity, and clean energy in West Bengal if the BJP comes to power. He highlighted several development projects initiated by his government, including those in the oil and gas, power, rail, and road sectors. He also mentioned a City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Bankura and Purulia districts, aimed at providing piped natural gas connections to households. Modi asserted that "Viksit Bangla" (Developed Bengal) is his guarantee and that the state can become one of the top industrial states in the country under BJP rule. He accused the TMC of obstructing central funds for welfare schemes and preventing them from reaching the people of West Bengal.
