On the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, the nation pauses to remember the sacrifices and bravery of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War of 1999. The day is a powerful reminder of the courage, tenacity, and patriotism displayed by Indian soldiers in safeguarding the country's territorial integrity.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, along with other top military officials, paid homage to the fallen heroes who gave their lives in service to the nation. He extended his greetings to the Indian Armed Forces, veterans, and their families, emphasizing that the courage of these bravehearts will forever inspire generations and serve as a guiding light for the forces.

General Chauhan highlighted the challenging circumstances of the Kargil War, where Indian forces fought against impossible odds. He noted that the enemy had occupied higher mountain peaks and fortified positions, giving them a distinct advantage. Despite these challenges, Indian soldiers demonstrated exemplary leadership and courage, climbing near-vertical cliffs under heavy enemy fire and in extreme weather conditions at dizzying altitudes to emerge victorious.

The CDS also reminded the nation of Pakistan's betrayal, where its army played a role in extending the conflict beyond the Great Himalayan Range by sending regular troops disguised as 'Mujahideen'. Despite adversaries continuing to test India's resolve, the spirit of the Kargil heroes remains a source of strength and inspiration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu also led the nation in paying tribute to the Kargil heroes. They acknowledged the unparalleled courage and sacrifice of the soldiers, stating that their dedication and passion to protect the motherland will continue to inspire every generation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tribute, calling Kargil Vijay Diwas an unforgettable day of pride and a saga of victory. He emphasized that the soldiers of 'Operation Vijay' brought the enemy to their knees, setting an indelible example of courage and valor.

Commemorations took place across the country, with the main ceremony held at the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh. Senior officials and families of the martyrs laid wreaths in tribute. These events serve to honor the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to engage the younger generation, deepening public engagement with the Indian Army's initiatives.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is not just a day of remembrance, but also a day to reaffirm the nation's commitment to protecting its sovereignty and honoring the sacrifices of its brave soldiers. The indomitable spirit and supreme sacrifice of the Kargil heroes will forever be etched in the nation's memory, inspiring generations to come.
