Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly criticized the Congress party for its perceived lack of support for the government and the armed forces following the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. Addressing Parliament during a two-day debate on the Pahalgam incident, Modi asserted that while India had the world's support, it was "sad" that backing from the Congress was absent.
Operation Sindoor was India's military response to the aforementioned Pahalgam attack. The Prime Minister highlighted the precision and swiftness of the operation, stating that Indian forces "avenged April 22 in 22 minutes". He contrasted this decisive action with claims that the forces were restrained, emphasizing that his government gave the armed forces a free hand during Operation Sindoor.
Modi's criticism was prompted by comments from senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram, who questioned the government's assertion that the Pahalgam terrorists were Pakistani and that the attack, which resulted in 26 fatalities, was orchestrated by the Pakistani deep state. The Prime Minister's remarks also reiterated the government's stance that the ceasefire on May 10 was agreed upon after Pakistan requested it. Modi affirmed that no world leader had asked India to halt Operation Sindoor.
Furthermore, Modi took a dig at claims made by Rahul Gandhi, without mentioning him by name, that the armed forces were not given a free hand. He responded to these claims by stating that Pakistan's air bases are now in the "ICU".
