The Border Security Force (BSF) has detained a man along the Indo-Pakistan border in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities discovered Pakistan-linked calls on his phone, prompting further investigation.
The BSF personnel guarding the International Border (IB) in the Kathua region noticed suspicious movement and apprehended the individual. Upon searching his belongings and mobile phone, they found contacts and call logs with connections to Pakistan-based numbers. The individual is currently being questioned to ascertain his motives and the nature of his contacts across the border.
This incident has raised concerns about potential cross-border activities and communication networks that could be used for subversive purposes. Security agencies are investigating whether the detained individual was involved in any espionage, smuggling, or terror-related activities. The investigation will also focus on identifying the individuals he was in contact with in Pakistan and their possible affiliations.
The Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir have been areas of concern due to infiltration attempts and ceasefire violations. The BSF has been vigilant in guarding the border and preventing any illegal activities. In the past, the BSF has foiled infiltration attempts and neutralized Pakistani intruders along the IB in the Kathua sector.
In one such incident in 2018, the BSF shot dead a Pakistani intruder, believed to be a guide for terrorists, along the International Border in the Kathua district. The intruder was trying to enter Indian territory when he was challenged by BSF troops. He did not heed the warning and tried to take cover, leading the BSF to open fire.
There have been instances where BSF personnel have inadvertently crossed the border and were later detained by Pakistan Rangers. In April 2025, a BSF constable was detained by Pakistan Rangers after he inadvertently crossed the international border in Punjab. The incident occurred near Ferozepur when the constable strayed across the boundary while assisting local farmers. He was later handed back to Indian authorities.
The current detention in Kathua highlights the need for heightened vigilance and security measures along the Indo-Pakistan border. The BSF and other security agencies are working to maintain a strict vigil and prevent any cross-border activities that could threaten the security of the region.
