A 24-year-old nurse was found dead at a nursing home in Singur, located in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, on Thursday. The discovery has sparked outrage and triggered a police investigation.
The nurse's body was found hanging from the ceiling in a room on the third floor of the nursing home. According to her family, the deceased, who was a resident of Nandigram in Purba Medinipur district, had only recently started working at the nursing home four days prior to her death.
The family has alleged that the nurse was sexually assaulted and murdered after she uncovered irregularities in the operations of the nursing home. However, the nursing home management has rejected these allegations, claiming that the nurse died by suicide.
Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the nurse's death. Authorities are awaiting the autopsy report before taking any further action. A police officer stated that they are waiting for the autopsy report before taking any action.
The incident has led to political demonstrations in the area, with opposition parties like the BJP and CPI(M) alleging that the nurse was murdered. These parties are demanding justice for the nurse and calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.
State Minister Becharam Manna, who is also the local TMC MLA, has stated that action will be taken if the police investigation reveals any foul play in the nurse's death.
