AIFF Clarifies Subhasish Bose Injury Status: Claims Mohun Bagan Player Wasn't Hurt While Representing India.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) are currently embroiled in a dispute regarding the injury status of Mohun Bagan's captain, Subhasish Bose. The disagreement arose after Mohun Bagan refused to release its players for the national training camp, citing concerns over player welfare and the timing of the camp outside of the FIFA window.

Mohun Bagan has strongly criticized the AIFF for allegedly neglecting player welfare, referencing the case of Subhasish Bose, who has been out of action since sustaining an injury. A Mohun Bagan official stated that the club has been paying Bose's salary while he undergoes rehabilitation and that the AIFF has not inquired about his condition. The club further alleges that the AIFF rarely communicates, compensates, or follows up when their players return injured from national duty.

In response to these allegations, the AIFF issued a statement clarifying that Subhasish Bose's injury did not occur during national duty. According to the AIFF, Bose played a full match in the AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Bangladesh on March 25, 2025, and was substituted for tactical reasons, not due to injury. The AIFF's letter also stated that Bose subsequently played full time in both legs of the Indian Super League (ISL) semi-finals in early April and in the ISL final on April 12, where he was substituted. The AIFF specified that Bose's injury occurred during the ISL final.

Mohun Bagan has refused to release 7 senior players for the national camp and four U-23 players. The club argues that it is not mandatory to release players outside of FIFA windows and that there is no compensation for injuries sustained during such camps. They are also preparing for their AFC Champions League Two opener against Turkmenistan's Ahal FC on September 16, 2025, and subsequent matches. The club seems focused on the AFC Champions League matches.

The AIFF has appealed for cooperation from clubs, acknowledging Jamshedpur FC for releasing coach Khalid Jamil in the country's interest. The federation maintains that Subhasish Bose was not injured on national duty, as claimed by Mohun Bagan. The AIFF's stance is that Bose's injury occurred during the ISL final, after his participation in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
