A tragic road accident in Palghar, Maharashtra, has claimed the lives of a young woman and her brother after a speeding trailer truck collided with their motorcycle. The incident occurred late Tuesday night on the Mahim-Palghar road near Hotel Tashi.

The deceased have been identified as Mangesh Vishwakarma, 22, and Pooja Vishwakarma, 25, both originally from Uttar Pradesh. They resided with their family in a housing complex in Haranwadi, Palghar. According to police reports, the siblings had gone out for ice cream after dinner around 11 pm. While returning home on their motorcycle, a fast-moving trailer rammed into them from behind.

The impact of the collision was devastating, resulting in the immediate death of both siblings. Their bodies were reportedly mutilated and scattered across the roadside. The driver of the trailer truck fled the scene and is currently at large. Local police have launched a search operation to apprehend the absconding driver and bring them to justice. An offence has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act.

The accident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising serious concerns about road safety and the prevalence of reckless driving. Authorities are urging all drivers to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and prioritize the safety of themselves and others to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This is not an isolated incident in the Palghar district. In June 2022, two brothers were killed after their two-wheeler was hit by a truck at Sativali. In February 2023, three people traveling on a two-wheeler died after being struck by a truck on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway (MH 48) near Charoti in Dahanu Taluka. These recurring incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, improved road infrastructure, and increased awareness campaigns to promote responsible driving.

The Vishwakarma siblings are survived by their parents and other family members. The process of bringing their bodies back to their native place for final rites is underway. The local community has expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
