Aamir Khan recently opened up about a near collaboration with acclaimed director Mani Ratnam for a film titled 'Lajo,' an adaptation of Ismat Chughtai's short story "Gharwali." The project, which generated considerable buzz in 2007, ultimately did not materialize.

In a recent interview, Khan clarified that the film wasn't shelved due to creative differences between him and Ratnam, contrary to previous reports. He stated that the project didn't work out for a "third reason" unrelated to their relationship. Khan expressed his admiration for the 'Ponniyin Selvan' director and hopes to collaborate with him in the future. He mentioned having met Ratnam several times, visiting his house, and having engaging conversations with him.

Khan has been a long-time admirer of Ratnam's work and expressed his desire to work with him. While 'Lajo' didn't take off, fans of both cinematic visionaries remain optimistic about a potential future collaboration.

Currently, Aamir Khan is promoting his upcoming film, 'Sitaare Zameen Par,' scheduled for release on June 20, 2025. The film is described as a spiritual sequel to 'Taare Zameen Par' (2007). It tells the story of a football coach who trains a team of specially-abled children. R.S. Prasanna directs the film, which features Genelia Deshmukh alongside a fresh ensemble cast and is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit.

Khan is also in talks with Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally for a potential project produced by Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations. He will also appear in Rajinikanth's upcoming film, 'Coolie,' alongside Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, and Upendra. Aamir Khan is also working with Rajkumar Hirani on a biopic about Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, slated for release in 2026.

Mani Ratnam's recent film, 'Thug Life,' starring Kamal Haasan, has received mixed reviews and has not performed well at the box office.
