On June 29, 2025, the Indian Navy responded to a distress call from the Pulau-flagged MT Yi Cheng 6, which was en route from Kandla, India, to Shinas, Oman. The vessel, carrying 14 Indian crew members, experienced a major fire in the engine room, resulting in a total power failure.

The Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Tabar, which was on a mission in the Gulf of Oman, swiftly responded to the emergency. Upon receiving the distress signal, INS Tabar immediately mobilized its firefighting team and equipment. The team was dispatched to the stricken tanker via the ship's boat and helicopter.

A joint team consisting of 13 Indian Navy personnel and 5 crew members from the MT Yi Cheng 6 are currently involved in the firefighting operations. Their coordinated efforts have led to a significant reduction in the intensity of the fire.

The Indian Navy's prompt response and sustained firefighting efforts have been crucial in averting a potential maritime disaster. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates are expected as the firefighting operations continue.
