A 44-year-old food delivery agent tragically died after falling into a swimming pool located on the 22nd floor of a residential building in South Mumbai. The incident occurred around 11:45 pm on Tuesday in a luxury building near the Grant Road railway station.

The deceased has been identified as Imran Akbar Khojada, a resident of Dongri. According to police reports, Khojada was on his way to deliver food to a resident of the building. CCTV footage showed Khojada walking past the swimming pool while talking on his phone when he slipped and fell into it. As there was no one nearby to rescue him, he drowned.

Authorities were alerted after the residents who had placed the order went to check on the delayed delivery, noticing his absence after being informed by the security guard that the delivery agent was on his way.

The Gamdevi police have registered an accidental death report and are currently investigating the incident. An official stated that Khojada's brother has confirmed that the family does not suspect any foul play.

This unfortunate event highlights the risks that food delivery personnel face while performing their duties. In recent months, several incidents involving food delivery agents in Mumbai have been reported. In April 2025, a 22-year-old food delivery man, Sarthak Jangam, was killed after being run over by a BEST bus in the Prabahdevi area. The bus driver was arrested for causing death by negligence. In May 2025, a Swiggy delivery rider, Salman Khan, died in a hit-and-run accident in Vikhroli while on his way to deliver an order. The police later detained a suspect believed to be the driver of the water tanker involved in the accident.

These incidents underscore the need for increased safety measures for food delivery workers, who often navigate busy streets and face pressure to meet tight delivery schedules.
