An Agniveer soldier, Lalit Kumar of the 7 JAT Regiment, was killed and two other soldiers were injured on Friday, July 25, 2025, in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The two injured soldiers have been identified as Havildar Gajender Singh and Naib Subedar Hari Ram. They were shifted to a military hospital and are in stable condition.

The incident occurred around 12:15 PM near the Victor post in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch, while the army personnel were conducting an area domination patrol. During this patrol, an anti-personnel M16 mine exploded. Additional troops were immediately dispatched to the location to assess the situation. Security officials are investigating the cause of the landmine explosion.

The Army's White Knight Corps, based in Jammu, confirmed the incident and the soldier's death. "GOC #WhiteKnightCorps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 JAT Regiment, who made the supreme sacrifice, while on an area domination patrol in general area of #Krishna Ghati brigade on 25 July 2025, following a mine blast. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief,” the White Knight Corps posted on X.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also expressed his condolences, stating, "I pay my heartfelt tributes to Agniveer Lalit Kumar who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. The nation stands firmly with them in this hour of grief".

The Krishna Ghati area, being close to the LoC, necessitates regular patrols by soldiers to monitor and prevent infiltration attempts. Landmines are often deployed in the area to deter infiltration. However, these mines can be displaced from their original positions due to rainfall and other factors, ending up along patrol routes.
