OpenAI has launched its affordable ChatGPT Go plan in Indonesia, marking the second country to receive this low-cost subscription option after its initial debut in India. The move aims to capture a larger user base in cost-conscious, high-growth markets.
ChatGPT Go in Indonesia is priced at 75,000 rupiah (US$4.52) per month. This provides users with access to advanced features at a more accessible price point compared to the existing Plus and Pro subscriptions. The subscription includes everything in the free plan, plus more messages, larger file uploads, and expanded image generation. It also provides access to advanced data analysis and a longer memory for more personalized responses. The plan utilizes OpenAI's latest GPT-5 model.
According to OpenAI, Indonesia is already one of ChatGPT's top five markets by weekly active users. The launch of ChatGPT Go in Indonesia follows a significant rise in ChatGPT usage within the country, with weekly active users having more than tripled year-on-year.
OpenAI Vice President and ChatGPT head Nick Turley stated on X that the number of subscribers in India more than doubled since the launch of Go in August. The company hopes to replicate this success in Indonesia, which is already demonstrating high engagement. India has become OpenAI's largest user base, accounting for approximately 13.5% of global monthly active ChatGPT users, surpassing the United States.
ChatGPT Go is designed to offer users extended access to GPT-5, increased image generation capabilities, expanded file upload capacity, and advanced data analysis tools. It also allows users to organize their work, track progress, and create custom GPTs tailored to their needs. However, API usage is not included and is billed separately.
Users in Indonesia can access ChatGPT Go through web and mobile apps, with payment options including credit cards and app store integrations. OpenAI has assured users that ChatGPT Go maintains the same data privacy standards as its other services.
This expansion comes as competition intensifies in the AI sector. OpenAI is working to broaden its user base while simultaneously releasing more advanced models. Recently, the company secured a $100 billion investment commitment from NVIDIA, who joins Microsoft and SoftBank as major backers.
OpenAI's strategy with ChatGPT Go is to balance cutting-edge AI innovation with broader market reach, ensuring that advanced tools are available to users across both developed and emerging markets. The introduction of ChatGPT Go aligns with OpenAI's broader goal of making generative AI more accessible in rapidly digitizing markets.
