The Indian Army is prioritizing readiness for fifth-generation warfare, which necessitates seamless integration of technology and modern strategies. Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, emphasized this focus while inaugurating ‘Agnishodh,’ a new Indian Army Research Cell (IARC) at IIT Madras. This initiative aims to boost self-reliance in defense technology and represents a significant collaboration between the Indian Army and a leading technical institute.

General Dwivedi articulated the Indian Army's comprehensive transformation strategy, built upon the 'Five Pillars of Transformation'. Agnishodh directly supports the pillar of 'Modernisation and Technology Infusion,' aiming to integrate academic research with real-time operational needs. The center will act as a catalyst, converting laboratory innovations into practical military technologies ready for field deployment. It will also work with the IIT Madras Research Park and other entities like the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC) and Pravartak Technologies Foundation.

During his address at IIT Madras, General Dwivedi spoke on "Operation Sindoor – A New Chapter in India's Fight Against Terrorism," praising the recent tri-services operation as a groundbreaking achievement in counter-terrorism. He highlighted the operation's unprecedented scale and strategic implications, noting the shifting dynamics of warfare. He expressed confidence that the Armed Forces are well-prepared for fifth-generation warfare, incorporating elements such as non-contact combat, psychological strategies, and swift strategic execution. Operation Sindoor, executed with precision, prompted a ceasefire request from Pakistan within 88 hours.

General Dwivedi emphasized the Indian Army's commitment to 'Swadeshikaran Se Sashaktikaran' (self-reliance through empowerment). He acknowledged essential technological collaborations under national initiatives like INDIAai, Chip-to-Startup, and Project QuILA. He also commended ongoing partnerships with institutions such as IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, and IISc Bengaluru, while recognizing IIT Madras for its contributions, including projects like SAMBHAV and advancements in additive manufacturing through Army Base Workshops.

Agnishodh will focus on upskilling soldiers in cutting-edge technology areas, including cybersecurity, quantum computing, additive manufacturing, wireless communication, and unmanned aerial systems. This will help prepare a future-ready defense force.

Following the inauguration, General Dwivedi visited the Officers Training Academy (OTA) to evaluate advances in infrastructure and training. He commended the instructional staff for their efforts in equipping future military leaders to address modern and hybrid warfare challenges. He also met with veterans and presented Veteran Achievers Awards to four ex-servicemen, honoring their sustained contributions to the nation after retirement.
