In a plot twist worthy of a Bollywood film, a 22-year-old BBA student from Indore, Shraddha Tiwari, experienced a real-life "Jab We Met" scenario when she ran away to marry her boyfriend but ended up marrying someone else.
On August 23, 2025, Shraddha left her home with the intention of eloping with her boyfriend, Sarthak Gehlot. However, upon arriving at the railway station, Sarthak informed her that he no longer wished to marry her. Heartbroken and without a clear destination, Shraddha boarded a train, eventually disembarking in Ratlam, a city known from the movie "Jab We Met".
At the Ratlam station, fate intervened. Shraddha encountered Karandeep, an electrician who worked at her college in Indore. Karandeep noticed her distress and, after hearing her story, advised her to return home. However, Shraddha insisted that she could not return unmarried. Moved by her resolve, Karandeep proposed marriage, and Shraddha accepted.
The couple then traveled to Maheshwar, where they married in a temple ceremony before heading to Mandsaur. Meanwhile, Shraddha's father, Anil Tiwari, initiated a frantic search for his missing daughter. He announced a reward of ₹51,000 for any information and even hung her photo upside down, a traditional superstition to aid in the return of missing persons. CCTV footage confirmed that Shraddha had left home at 2 a.m. on August 23 without her phone, complicating the search efforts.
After a week, Shraddha contacted her father from Mandsaur to inform him that she was safe. Although relieved, he expressed disbelief and concern regarding her sudden marriage and mental well-being. He claimed Karandeep said Shraddha was contemplating suicide when he intervened.
Upon their return to Indore, Shraddha and Karandeep visited the MIG police station, where Shraddha provided her statement. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotia confirmed that the authorities are verifying the marriage claim and have requested proof. Police are also checking her timeline and movements, including verifying train travel and records from Mandsaur and Maheshwar. Sarthak, Shraddha's initial boyfriend, told police he had not been in contact with her for several days.
According to reports, Shraddha allegedly attempted to jump from a moving train, but Karan, who had previously worked as an electrician at her college, intervened. Shraddha then asked Karan to marry her. They exchanged vows at a temple in Khargone and Maheshwar.
While police have stated that Shraddha, as an adult, is free to marry anyone she chooses, suspicions remain that she knew Karandeep beforehand. Her father expressed concern that she may be in a situation she did not willingly accept. Despite counseling, Shraddha refused to return home. Initially, Shraddha's father stated the family would keep the couple apart for ten days, and if Shraddha continued to insist on living with Karandeep after this period, the family would accept the marriage.
