The highly anticipated cameo of Lady Gaga in the second season of Netflix's "Wednesday" has left some fans shocked and underwhelmed. After months of waiting and speculation, the pop superstar's appearance as Rosaline Rotwood, a deceased former teacher at Nevermore Academy, turned out to be fleeting, clocking in at under two minutes of screen time.

Gaga's character, Rosaline Rotwood, appears in episode 6 of the second part of season 2, titled "Woe Thyself". Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) seeks out Rosaline's grave in an attempt to regain her psychic powers, which she lost in the first part of the season. Rosaline, a legendary Nevermore teacher from the 1960s known for her second sight, offers to help Wednesday, but warns of potential trouble. The scene is cut short when Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) interrupts the spell, leading to a "Freaky Friday" body-swap scenario between Enid and Wednesday. Rosaline then instructs Enid, in Wednesday's body, on how to reverse the body swap.

While Gaga's performance as Rosaline has been praised, the brevity of her appearance has sparked disappointment among some viewers. Many fans took to social media to express their surprise and frustration, with some noting that her cameo lasted less than two minutes. Some fans felt that the singer was severely underused.

Despite the brief screen time, Lady Gaga's connection to "Wednesday" runs deeper than just a cameo. The show's co-creator, Alfred Gough, revealed that Gaga's appearance was inspired by the viral dance trend from the first season. The dance, featuring Jenna Ortega's moves inspired by Siouxsie Sioux and Bob Fosse, went viral on TikTok when fans set it to Lady Gaga's song "Bloody Mary". Gough stated that they have always been huge Lady Gaga fans. They were thrilled that she could come and play in the sandbox.

In addition to her on-screen appearance, Lady Gaga's music also features in the second part of season 2. Her new song, "The Dead Dance," debuts in episode 7 during a dance sequence featuring Enid and Agnes (Evie Templeton).

Rosaline's role, though brief, is important to the plot. After following Rosaline's advice, Wednesday and Enid finally open up and manage to return to their original selves. Larissa Weems (the Nevermore principal killed in Season 1), now acting as Wednesday's spirit guide, informs her that her vision of Enid's death has changed. Enid won't die, but now the victim will be a member of her family.

It remains to be seen whether Lady Gaga will have a more substantial role in future seasons of "Wednesday". Netflix has confirmed that there will be a Season 3, though an official release date has not been announced. Based on production timelines, the new episodes may arrive on the streaming platform by late 2026 or sometime in 2027.
