A fierce encounter in the Gudar forest of Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir has resulted in the deaths of two terrorists and injuries to army personnel. According to initial reports, two army personnel have succumbed to their injuries. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants in the area.
The joint operation involved the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Security forces cordoned off the Gudar forest area in Kulgam and initiated a search operation. The search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired upon the security forces.
During the exchange of fire, the security forces eliminated two terrorists. However, the encounter also resulted in casualties among the security forces. Initially, it was reported that a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) sustained injuries during the gunfight and was immediately evacuated to a hospital. Tragically, latest reports confirm that two soldiers have died from their injuries sustained in the encounter.
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the incident, stating that vigilant troops observed suspicious activity, and a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued after the terrorists opened fire. The army is working to ascertain the identity of the slain militants, with initial reports suggesting that one may be a foreign militant.
The operation is still in progress as the joint team of forces is searching the forest area for other possible militants. Additional troops have been deployed to tighten the siege and prevent the militants from escaping.
This encounter follows a recent anti-terror operation in the Akhal forest area of Kulgam, which lasted for 11 days. That operation resulted in the death of two soldiers and injuries to ten others.
Authorities have evacuated the civilian population near the forest and shifted them to safer locations. The area is known for its dense foliage and hilly terrain, which poses a challenge for security forces during operations. Moreover, inclement weather, including rain, adds to the complexity of the operation.
The incident highlights the continued presence of militant activity in the Kulgam region and the ongoing efforts by security forces to maintain peace and stability in the area.
